2018 has been such a game-changing year for my skin. Ever since starting to drink green tea and two litres of water every day, my skin has started to look healthier and more glowing, and it has inspired me to really take more care of my skin and to look at the products that I use carefully and considerately. Here are some of my favourite products that have stayed strong throughout my routine, or are new found loves of 2018!
CLEANSERS & MAKEUP REMOVER
For the duration of the year, I have always used Garnier’s Micellar Water. For someone who has very sensitive skin, I find it really gentle and soothing, and it always takes off the majority of my makeup. I also only buy about one big bottle of it a year for £5, and it lasts me so well, it’s an absolute bargain.
However recently in Primark, I saw these wipes and decided to give them a go. I’ve never had much luck with wipes, even Simple’s sensitive skin wipes are too harsh on my skin, but by some unknown miracle, these wipes work wonders, and it’s so easy to just pick them up and use, instead of getting cotton pads everywhere, they’re soft on my skin, and they’re £1 for a pack of 2, you really can’t go wrong.
I was also gifted the Body Shop’s Cleansing Butter, and it’s so soft and creamy. It’s not my go-to cleanser, only because I find it a little awkward to use as it’s too creamy to waste the product on cotton pads, but hard to completely use alone with your fingers. Instead I rub it onto my face before a shower, and wash it off with warm water, and it leaves my skin feeling smooth, and I don’t return back to my bedroom looking like a Panda!
TONICS AND TONERS
I always use toners after my cleanser, to ensure that all of my makeup is removed, and also to give my skin a bit of love and refreshment. I was given the Liz Earle Tonic for my birthday, and it feels soothing and refreshing on the skin, and always removes makeup that my Micellar Water doesn’t!
I love the Pixi Rose Tonic, the scent is so pretty and fresh, and I can really feel the effect that it gives my skin. It is a Hydrosol based toner, which removes imperfections from your skin, but because it is so effective, I only use it 3 times a week in order to give my skin a little break, but I will definitely be repurchasing this full size!
I’ve spoken about Superdrug’s Tea Tree Range before. It’s a perfect affordable solution to taking care of your skin. Tea Tree Oil is fantastic at ridding your skin of bacteria, keeping it clean and refreshed, and I love using this Toner when my skin isn’t looking it’s best, and within a few days it takes perfect care of it!
I’m completely new to eye creams, but I’m very wary that as I age day by day, so does my skin. I know, I know, I’m only 21, but one day I won’t be and I really want to know that I took good care of myself.
My mum gave me to try (and somehow I ended up keeping it, whoops) the Origins GinZing Eye Cream. It’s only a teeny tiny tube, but a little goes a long way. I dab a little dot under my eyes and it really does reduce the bags that reveal to everyone that I stayed up all night watching crime documentaries. Win win!
I also use the Liz Earle (again, from my birthday), Eye Brightener. I pour a little onto some cotton pads and hold it over my eye gently for a few seconds, and when I move it off it takes away all of my remaining eye makeup, and leaves my eyes feeling really cool and refreshed.
- DR BOTANICALS Pomegranate Noir Indulgence Cream £29
- LIZ EARLE Moisturiser £21
- Skin Chemist Pro-Lift Rose Quartz £54
Now I’ve banged on about my favourite moisturiser so so much, but it truly has transformed my skin, you know what I’m talking about – Dr Botanicals Pomegranate Noir Cream. It’s the most gentle and natural skincare product that I have ever come across, and I really believe that the reason that it works wonders on my skin is because it’s all vegan, and it’s completely inspired be to be more kinder to my skin, and the world around me. Aaaanyway, to cut this long winded tangent short, what I’m trying to say is that, I will never buy another moisturiser to replace this one (I don’t think, but hey I’m open to persuasion) BUT the Liz Earle Moisturiser feels so soft and soothing on the skin, and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to try it!
My mum takes part in a lot of product testing, and she was recently sent the Skin Chemist Rose Quartz Serum, and kindly let me try some because A) It’s a sister company to Dr Botanicals and B) Rose is my favourite scent in the world, surprise surprise I love it. Now it’s incredibly pricey, and I’m not sure if I could ever justify repurchasing it for myself, especially with loving my loyal Dr B so much, BUT for anyone who wants to know if it’s any good, I highly recommend it. It really does feel like a luxury serum and a treat for the skin!
Dr Botanicals again? Who would’ve thought it! I was actually sent this for free by mistake when I ordered my usual moisturiser, and after telling customer service, they kindly let me keep it. I don’t normally use overnight masks, but once a week I leave this on my skin, and I wake up feeling so soft and smooth, and with a real glow. It also smells AMAZING.
I know that this product isn’t technically skincare but JESUS CHRIST, listen to me when I say this, this is the nicest smelling body wash I have ever smelt in my entire life. I’m talking like good enough to eat. I’ve gone out after showering with this, and had people ask me what perfume I’m wearing. Honest to god I’m in love (as you can tell from the little left), I couldn’t not mention this. I’ll be gutted when I run out.
So that’s it for this years Skincare favourites, I’ll be doing a makeup one very soon. I’d love to hear everyone’s holy grail skincare!0
